As a youngest city of Uzbekistan Navoi is the real oasis, founded in 1958 and named after the greatest poet, distinguished statesman – Alisher Navoi.
The city’s young age does not mean it has the same years’ history – the site of current Navoi and the surroundings of it have a long history of significant importance. Centuries ago it was main route on which the Great Silk Road passed; in addition, a number of cultural traces Ancient Saki, Baktriya, Khorezm were found in this area.
Navoi is famous for the biggest mural gallery all over the world – the Sarmish Gorge. Including two kilometers Sarmish Gorge represents nearly four thousand petroglyphs drawn in various periods. Here you can notice the paintings of ancient “ astronauts” . Some say that occasionally unexpected phenomena occur in the mysterious gorge which interest many researchers of UFO centers.
Navoi is a leading industrial center of Uzbekistan, specializing and developing in many fields of industry. Here Uzbekistan’s gold-producing Navoi Mining and Metallurgical Combinat, mineral fertilizer producing “Navoiazot” JCK, the hydropower station Navoi and other industrial plants are working.
